Sunday School Lesson May 5, 2024
Subject: Worshiping God
The Point: When we worship God together, we experience joy in His presence.
Scriptures: Psalm 34:1-3,8-10,15-18
Study The Bible: Psalm 34:1-3
1). In worship, we give God praise.
- I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.
- I will boast in the Lord; the humble will hear and be glad.
- Proclaim the Lord’s greatness with me; let us exalt his name together.
Lasting truths from: Psalm 34:1-3
* Giving blessing, praise, exaltation, and lifting up the name of the Lord is to be an ongoing practice and unending desire of everyone who is in a right relationship with Him.
* Of all the good things in our lives about which we may boast and be pleased, nothing is better or greater than what we have because of God’s graciousness to us.
* How wonderful it is to gather with brothers and sisters in the Lord and raise our voices in worship and praise to Him.
2). In worship, we see God’s goodness.
Psalm 34:8-10
- Taste and see that the Lord is good. How happy is the person who takes refuge in him!
- You who are his holy ones, fear the Lord, for those who fear him lack nothing.
- Young lions lack food and go hungry, will not lack any good thing.
Lasting truths from: Psalm 34:8-10
* Those who seek the Lord will find that He is good and brings blessing to their lives.
* Those who stand in awe of the Lord will find He is always sufficient for their needs.
* Satisfaction and goodness are found in God alone.
3). In worship, we find God’s help.
Psalm 34:15-18
- The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry for help.
- The face of the Lord is set against those who do what is evil.
- The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and rescues them from all that troubles.
- The Lord is near the brokenhearted; he saves those crushed in spirit.
Lasting truths from: Psalm 34:15-18
* The Lord ever watches over those who are His own.
* Our cries for help are heard by Him and He ably responds to deliver us from whatever befalls us and to give us victory, even over the worst enemy of all, that is sin.
* Those who refuse the Lord and choose evil will suffer the consequences of being separated from Him, the worst fate possible.
As you reflect on this session, respond to the following questions:
- What elements of worship help you to give praise to God, both in terms of who He is and what He does?
- Recall an awe-inspiring time of worship in which you were a participant in magnify the name of the Lord and honored Him for His goodness and provision in time of need.
- What is your testimony of a time when you sought the Lord amid despair, and He responded by snatching you away from that which would cause distress or harm to you?
Closing Prayer:
“Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died on the cross to forgive me of my sins and rose from the dead to give me new life. I’m sorry for all the wrong I’ve done and ask You to forgive me. I now accept Your gift of eternal life. Thank You for Your love, forgiveness, and a new life in Jesus Christ. From this day forward, I choose to follow You. In Jesus’ name Amen.”
