Subject: The Culmination Our Hope
The Point: What we hope for in Christ will one day be fully attained.
The Passage: 1 Peter 5:5b-11
Study The Bible: 1 Peter 5:5b-7
1). When we humble ourselves, God exalts us.
5b. All of you clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.
- Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you at the proper time,
- casting all your cares on him, because he cares about you.
Lasting truths from 1 Peter 5:5b-7
- We need to be devoted daily to practicing humility as followers of Jesus.
- WE can humble ourselves and be exalted at the proper time or we can walk in pride until God humbles us.
- Since we have a God who cares about us, we can trust Him to take care of us.
1 Peter 5:8-9
2). When we resist Satan, we can remain firm in the midst of suffering.
- Be sober-minded, be alert. Your adversary the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour.
- Resist him, firm in the faith, knowing that the same kind of sufferings are being experienced by your fellow believers throughout the world.
Lasting truths from 1 Peter 5:8-9
- Satan is looking for an opportunity to deceive us or destroy us. We must be alert to his presence and aware of his agenda.
- We can resist the devil through the discernment of the Holy Spirit and truth of God’s Word.
- Many believers have experienced persecution as followers of Christ.
1 Peter 5:10-11
3). When we have suffered a little while, God will restore us to His eternal glory.
- The God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, establish, strengthen, and support you after you suffered a little while.
- To him be dominion forever. Amen.
Lasting truths from 1 Peter 5:10-11
- When we look forward in hope, we are able to cope with our present troubles knowing that the Lord is always with us.
- It is important to recognize the relationship between God’s grace and glory.
- We have the assurance from God that our suffering is not permanent, it is only for a short time when viewed in light of eternity.
