Sunday School Lesson January 21, 2024
Subject: A Cry for Justice
The Point: Join God in seeking justice, including justice for unborn children.
Scriptures: Psalm 10:1-4, 12-18
Study The Bible: Psalm 10:1-4
1). The wicked pursue injustice with no fear of God.
- Lord, why do you stand so far away? Why do you hide in times of trouble?
- In arrogance the wicked relentlessly pursue their victims; let them be caught in the schemes they have devised.
- For the wicked one boasts about his own cravings; the one who is greedy curses and despises the Lord.
- In all his scheming, the wicked person arrogantly thinks, “There’s no accountability, since there’s no accountability, since there’s no God.”
Lasting truths from: Psalm 10:1-4
* When times are difficult, we can cry out to the Lord.
* During times of trail, we may fear the Lord has left us on our own.
* Even though we are trying to live faithfully for the Lord, we see ourselves being victimized by the wicked who refuse to think about God at all.
2). The humble look to God for justice.
Psalm 10:12-15
- Rise up, Lord God! Lift up your hand. Do not forget the oppressed.
- Why has the wicked person despised God? He says to himself, “You will not demand an account.”
- But you yourself have seen trouble and grief, observing it in order to take the matter into your hands. The helpless one entrusts himself to you; you are a helper of the fatherless.
- Break the arm of the wicked, evil person, until you look for his wickedness, but it can’t be found.
Lasting truths from: Psalm 10:12-15
* Call on the Lord in times of despair, for He does not forget the humble of heart who need Him.
* The wicked can convince themselves God doesn’t pay any attention n to their wickedness and will not hold them accountable.
* God is very much aware of the sin of the wicked and He will hold them accountable.
* The faithful can trust the Lord to act with justice on their behalf.
3). God will over throw injustice.
Psalm 10:16-18
- The Lord is King forever and ever; the nations will perish from his land.
- Lord, you have heard the desire of the humble; you will strengthen their hearts. You will listen carefully,
- doing justice for the fatherless and the oppressed so that mere humans from the earth may terrify them no more.
Lasting truths from: Psalm 10:16-18
* The Lord is the King of all, and He reigns for ever and ever.
* The wicked shall not prevail.
* The Lord hears the cries of His people.
* The Lord strengthens the faithful during times of trail.
* Our fears of the wicked dissipate under the justice of the Lord.
Live It Out
- List people groups being treated unjustly or areas of injustice that you identify in your own community.
- Do you see an attitude among some people in your community who abuse others with no fear of God? How can the message of the gospel bring about the option of tasting change? How can the gospel message be more clearly proclaimed to address those community needs? Is it more speech or more Christian participation in seeking solutions?
- What are ways that you, our Bible study group, or your church can more actively engage in addressing the injustices that exist around you?
Closing Prayer:
“Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died on the cross to forgive me of my sins and rose from the dead to give me new life. I’m sorry for all the wrong I’ve done and ask You to forgive me. I now accept Your gift of eternal life. Thank You for Your love, forgiveness, and a new life in Jesus Christ. From this day forward, I choose to follow You. In Jesus’ name Amen.”
