Sunday School Lesson June 13, 2021
Subject: Steadfast in Difficulties
The Point: We need not fear because we are rich in God’s grace.
The Passages: Revelation 2:8-11
Study The Bible: Revelation 2:8-9
1). We are rich in spiritual blessings when we live for Christ.
- “Write to the angel of the church in Smyrna; Thus says the First and the Last, the one who was dead and came to life.
- I know your affliction and poverty, but you are rich. I know the slander of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.
Lasting truths from: Revelation 2:8-9
* Christians will face opposition in this world.
* Material poverty cannot destroy the spiritual wealth of a relationship with Christ.
* Those who oppose the church have aligned themselves with Christ’s enemy.
2). We do not need to fear adversity.
Revelation 2:10
- Don’t be afraid of what you are about to suffer. Look, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison to test you, and you will experience affliction for ten days. Be faithful to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.
Lasting truth from: Revelation 2:10
* We need not fear the future when Jesus is our Lord.
* Temporary persecution cannot overshadow eternal glory.
* Jesus promises life to His faithful followers.
3). We do not need to fear death.
Revelation 2:11
- “Let anyone who has ears to hear listen to what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who conquers will never be harmed by the second death.”
Lasting truth from: Revelation 2:11
* Hearing God’s Word is both a divine and human encounter.
* Everyone must face physical death with courage.
* Courage comes with the knowledge that we will not face the second death.
Live It Out
As you reflect on this lesson respond to the following questions:
- What are some of the ways that you are “rich” with spiritual blessings?
- How does the gospel give you the perspective to face trials?
- What gives you confidence that you will not face the second death?
- What are you doing to share the gospel with those facing impending judgment?
Closing Prayer:
“Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died on the cross to forgive me of my sins and rose from the dead to give me new life. I’m sorry for all the wrong I’ve done and ask You to forgive me. I now accept Your gift of eternal life. Thank You for Your love, forgiveness, and a new life in Jesus Christ. From this day forward, I choose to follow You. In Jesus’ name Amen.”
