Subject: Committed to His Mission

The Point: God desires for all people to hear and respond to the gospel.

The Passage: Romans 10:9-17

Study The Bible: Romans 10:9-10

1). The message of salvation is summed up in confession and belief in Christ.

9. If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
10. One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation.

Lasting truths from Romans 10:9-10

• The gospel calls us to confess Jesus as Lord of our lives.
• The resurrection of Jesus is central to salvation.
• Salvation in both a personal and public event.

2). The message of salvation is for all people.

 Romans 10:11-13

11. For the Scripture says, Everyone who believes on him will not be put to shame,
12. since there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, because the same Lord of all richly blesses all who call on him.
13. For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

Lasting truths from Romans 10:11-13

• No one who believes on Jesus will be put to shame.
• The Lord is ready to welcome both Jews and Gentiles into the family of faith.
• Everyone who calls on Jesus’ name will experience His salvation.

3).  We are to share the message of salvation.

Romans 10:14-17

14. How, then, can they call on him they have not believed in? And how can they believe without hearing about him? And how can they hear without a preacher?
15. And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news.
16. But not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, Lord, who has believed our message?
17. So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about Christ.

Lasting truths from Romans 10:14-17

• People need to hear and understand the gospel before they can believe it and receive it.
• People need to share the message of Christ so others can hear it and receive it.
• The gospel has the power to change lives and to change the world.

Live It Out

As you reflect on this session, respond to the following questions.

1. Take some time to reflect on the truth of Romans 10:9-10. Share it with your group and make sure everyone understands it.
2. Secure current statistics from the International Mission Board (www.imb.org) and the North American Mission Board (www.namb.org). Consider your church’s role in accomplishing the Great Commission.
3. Commit to praying the prayer Jesus asked us to pray in Matthew 9:37-38, Ask the Lord to send laborers.

Closing Prayer:

“Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died on the cross to forgive me of my sins and rose from the dead to give me new life. I’m sorry for all the wrong I’ve done and ask You to forgive me. I now accept Your gift of eternal life. Thank You for Your love, forgiveness, and a new life in Jesus Christ. From this day forward, I choose to follow You, In Jesus’ name, Amen”
