Subject: Commitment to His Word
The Point: God’s Word gives trustworthy guidance for all of life.
The Passage: Psalm 119:1-11
Study The Bible: Psalm 119:1-4
1). God’s Word guides our daily walk.
- How happy are those whose way is blameless, who walk according to the Lord’s instruction!
- Happy are those who keep his decrees and seek him with all their heart.
- They do nothing wrong; they walk in his ways.
- You have commanded that your precepts be diligently kept.
Lasting truths from Psalm 119:1-4
- Happiness comes to those who live according to the Lord’s instruction.
- Following God’s ways keeps us from doing wrong and helps us embrace life as God intended it.
- God wants us to diligently keep His precepts.
2). God’s Word leads us to live unashamed.
Psalm 119:5-8
- If only my ways were committed to keeping your statutes!
- Then I would not be ashamed when I think about all your commands.
- I will praise you with an upright heart when I learn your righteous judgments.
- I will keep your statutes; never abandon me.
Lasting truths from Psalm 119:5-8
- Our praise to God should come from a sincere heart.
- Reading God’s Word regularly helps us learn His righteous judgments.
- Following God means living unashamed in both our worship and in our obedience.
- God enables us to live the lives to which He calls us.
3). God’s Word keeps us from sin.
Psalm 119:9-11
- How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping your word.
- I have sought you with all my heart; don’t let me wander from your commands.
- I have treasured your word in my heart so that I may not sin against you.
Lasting truths from Psalm 119:9-11
- Following God’s Word is key to maintaining lives of purity.
- We should seek the Lord with all our hearts.
- Filling our hearts with God’s Word helps us resist sin.
