Subject: Does It Lead You to Be More Like Jesus?
The Point: God’s desire is to conform us to the image of Christ.
Scriptures: Colossians 3:1-14
Study The Bible: Colossians 3:1-4
1). God’s voice draws our thoughts to the things of God.
- So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
- Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
- For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
- When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
Lasting truths from: Colossians 3:1-4
* God’s voice draws our thoughts to the things of God.
* We can act in faith because of the reality of Christ’s intercession for us.
* True biblical hope is having assurance of God’s faithfulness in the future.
2). God’s voice draws us to put to death the earthly nature.
Colossians 3:5-9
- Therefore, put to death what belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry.
- Because of these, God’s wrath is coming upon the disobedient,
- and you once walked in these things when you were living in them.
- But now, put away all the following: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and filthy language from your mouth.
- Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old self with its practices.
Lasting truths from: Colossians 3:5-9
* God’s voice draws us to put to death the earthly nature.
* When we sin, we are not acting in accordance with the new nature that God has given us in Christ.
* We must put off the old self with its practices not just in what we do but also in how we think.
* Sinful thoughts and actions have no place in our relationships—particularly our relationships with other believers.
* While all sin damages our relationships with others, lying is particularly destructive to those relationships. Honesty and the love of Christ should be foundational in all our relationships.
3). God’s voice draws us to cultivate godly character.
Colossians 3:10-14
- and have put on the new self. You are being renewed in knowledge according to the image of your Creator.
- In Christ there is not Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all.
- Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and dearly loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience,
- bearing with one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a grievance against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you are also to forgive.
- Above all, put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.
Lasting truth from: Colossians 3:10-14
* God’s love for us is based on His loving choice of us and not on our value.
* God’s voice draws us to cultivate godly character.
* Love for God and for one another binds us together and testifies to the world about the supremacy of God.

Closing Prayer:
“Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died on the cross to forgive me of my sins and rose from the dead to give me new life. I’m sorry for all the wrong I’ve done and ask You to forgive me. I now accept Your gift of eternal life. Thank You for Your love, forgiveness, and a new life in Jesus Christ. From this day forward, I choose to follow You. In Jesus’ name Amen.”
