Subject: The King Who Reigns Forever
The Point: Jesus rules His kingdom now and forever
The Passages: Isaiah 9:6-7, Luke 1:26-33
Study The Bible: Isaiah 9:6-7
1). A child would be born who will reign on the throne of David forever.
- For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on his shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
- The dominion will be vast, and its prosperity will never end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from now on and forever. The zeal of the Lord of Armies will accomplish this.
Lasting truths from: Isaiah 9:6-7
* Hope was coming to Judah in the birth of the Messiah, Jesus Christ.
* Jesus was fully God and yet fully man.
* We should live in Jesus’ kingdom by embracing His justice and righteousness.
2). The birth of the King was divinely announced.
Luke 1:26-31
- In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth,
- to a virgin engaged to a man named Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary.
- And the angel came to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you.”
- But she was deeply troubled by this statement, wondering what kind of greeting this could be.
- Then the angel told her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
- Now listen; You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus.
Lasting truth from: Luke 1:26-31
* God chooses people to be part of His plan, and we should humbly surrender to His will.
* Jesus was born of God and Mary, which means He was fully God and fully man.
* Jesus fulfilled God’s promise to extend and continue the line of David forever.
3). Jesus is the King who rules forever.
Luke 1:32-33
- He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David.
- He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will have no end.”
Lasting truth from: Luke 1:32-33
* Jesus fulfilled God’s promises both to Abraham and the Patriarchs and David the king.
* Jesus was the Son of God sent to earth in human flesh.
* Jesus reigns over all kingdoms, and His kingdom is forever.

As you reflect on this session, respond to the following questions:
- What impact has the celebration of Christmas had upon your life this year?
- Which of the four titles of Jesus in Isaiah 9:6 means the most to you at this point in your life?
- How did the titles of Jesus emphasize both His humanity and divinity? How did His birth to Mary do that also?
Closing Prayer:
“Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died on the cross to forgive me of my sins and rose from the dead to give me new life. I’m sorry for all the wrong I’ve done and ask You to forgive me. I now accept Your gift of eternal life. Thank You for Your love, forgiveness, and a new life in Jesus Christ. From this day forward, I choose to follow You. In Jesus’ name Amen.”
