Subject: The Love Expressed in God’s Name

The Point: We can call upon the name of God because He loves us deeply.

Scriptures: Psalm 103:1-5, 8-13, 17-19

Study The Bible: Psalm 103:1-5

1). In His love, God provides what we desperately need.

1. My soul, bless the Lord, and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
2. My soul, bless the Lord, and do not forget all his benefits.
3. He forgives all your iniquity; he heals all your diseases.
4. He redeems your life from the Pit; he crowns you with faithful love and compassion.
5. He satisfies you with good things; your youth is renewed like the eagle.

Lasting truths from: Psalm 103:1-5

* Not only do we not provide God with anything that He needs, but in His love, God provides what we desperately need.

* An earthly father’s provision are all partial and temporary. God the Father’s provision is complete and eternal.

* We are not simply restored to the condition in which God found us. God makes us into new creations.

2). In His love, God extends to us compassion, grace, and forgiveness.

Psalm 103:8-13

8. The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in faithful love,
9. He will not always accuse us or be angry forever.
10. He has not dealt with us as our sins deserve or repaid us accounting to our iniquities.
11. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his faithful love toward those who fear him.
12. As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
13. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.

Lasting truths from: Psalm 103:8-13

*  In his love, God extends to us compassion, grace, and forgiveness.

* While our sins and iniquity deserve eternal destruction, God has set His love on us and chosen to avert His wrath from us.

* The love of God for His people is a consistent theme throughout the Old and New Testaments.

3). In His love, God never abandons His people.

Psalm 103:17-19

17. But from eternity to eternity the Lord’s faithful love is toward those who fear him, and his righteousness toward the grandchildren
18. of those who keep his covenant, who remember to observe his precepts.
19. The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all.

Lasting truths from: Psalm 103:17-19

* God’s plans are never thwarted, laid aside, or delayed.

* In His love, God never abandons His people.

* God rules over His Kingdom as a Wise, Sovereign, and Beautiful King.

Live It Out

1. How can we worship God in spirit and in truth?
2. Since the Bible teaches us that God is our loving Father, how should we respond to Him?
3. What does it mean to acknowledge God as your King?
4. How does God’s compassion, grace, and forgiveness change us?
5. Why is it so important to find our security in God’s faithfulness?

Closing Prayer:

“Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died on the cross to forgive me of my sins and rose from the dead to give me new life. I’m sorry for all the wrong I’ve done and ask You to forgive me. I now accept Your gift of eternal life. Thank You for Your love, forgiveness, and a new life in Jesus Christ. From this day forward, I choose to follow You. In Jesus’ name Amen.”
