Subject: Honor Your Neighbor
The Point: Love is seen in how we honor others.
The Passages: Romans 12:9-21
Study The Bible:
1). Honor others by seeking their best.
Romans 12:9-13
- Let love be without hypocrisy. Detest evil; cling to what is good.
- Love one another deeply as brothers and sisters. Take the lead in honoring one another.
- Do not lack diligence in zeal; be fervent in the Spirit; serve the Lord.
- Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; be persistent in prayer.
- Share with the saints in their needs; pursue hospitality.
Lasting truths from: Romans 12:9-13
* Seek to honor others and not ourselves.
* Seek to stand firm for the truth but also do so with gentleness and kindness.
* Depend on the Lord to work through us as we seek to stay close to Him.
2). Honor others over honoring yourself.
Romans 12:14-16
- Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
- Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep.
- Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud; instead, associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own estimation.
Lasting truths from: Romans 12:14-16
* God desires the believer to honor others, even those who curse them.
* The believer should exhibit humility and avoid pride in their life.
* Believers who have a deep love for God will also exhibit a deep love for others, weeping or rejoicing with them.
3). Honor others through peaceful relationships.
Romans 12:17-21
- Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Give careful thought to do what is honorable in everyone’s eyes.
- If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
- Friends, do not avenge yourselves; instead, leave room for God’s wrath, because it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.
- But if your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him something to drink. For in so doing you will be heaping fiery coals on his head.
- Do not be conquered by evil, but conquer evil with good.
Lasting truth from: Romans 12:17-21
* A Christian is to seek to honor others and live at peace with them if possible.
* Christians are not to seek revenge. They are to be gracious and forgiving, trusting God to bring justice as needed.
* When Christians are gracious to those who oppose them, good can conquer evil.

- How can Christians seek to honor others by striving to do what is best for them?
- How can Christians seek to care for others deeply with humility?
- How can Christians seek to honor and show kindness even to those who attack them so that good can conquer evil?
Closing Prayer:
“Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died on the cross to forgive me of my sins and rose from the dead to give me new life. I’m sorry for all the wrong I’ve done and ask You to forgive me. I now accept Your gift of eternal life. Thank You for Your love, forgiveness, and a new life in Jesus Christ. From this day forward, I choose to follow You. In Jesus’ name Amen.”
