We have heard Jesus referred to as “Son of God” or “Son of Man” but not “Son of David.” They are the first persons in Matthew’s gospel to address Jesus as such. The title Son of David refers to the genealogy of Jesus.

It was known that the Messiah would be a descendant of David.

David reign as King of Israel was the most brilliant of Israelite’s history.
1. He united the tribes into one nation.
2. He secured undisputed possession of the country.
3. The whole government was subject to the Will of God, and the Will of God was the law of Israel.

The blind men cried “have mercy on us.” It had been foretold that the Messiah would have compassion and show mercy.

Jesus took the blind men inside the house where He was staying and questioned them about their faith. They both professed their faith in Him when they said, “Yea, Lord.”

For them to have said “Lord” in the 1st century was as to them acknowledging Jesus as superior and supreme. It was a sign of respect denoting His sovereignty. The Lord is sovereign which means He is in control.

Jesus asked them – “Do you believe that I am able?” Interestingly, these two blind men were healed not because of the faith they personally had, but because they had faith in the right person – Jesus the Christ. Who do you put your trust in? The blind men trusted Jesus to heal them. Do you believe I am able?
