Subject: God Is Holy
The Point: God is set apart from everything else and deserves our worship.
Scriptures: Psalm 99:1-9
Study The Bible: Psalm 99:1-3
1). God is set apart in His greatness.
1. The Lord reigns! Let the peoples tremble. He is enthroned between the cherubim. Let the earth quake.
2. The Lord is great in Zion; he is exalted above all the peoples.
3. Let them praise your great and awe-inspiring name. He is Holy.
Lasting truths from: Psalm 99:1-3
* The Lord reigns.
* The Lord is great.
* The Lord is holy.
* The Lord is to be praised.
2). God is set apart in His justice.
Psalm 99:4-5
4. The mighty King loves justice. Your have established fairness; you have administered justice and righteousness in Jacob.
5. Exalt the Lord our God; bow in worship at his footstool. He is holy.
Lasting truths from: Psalm 99:4-5
* The Almighty King intervenes in the lives of His people acting impartially, justly, and righteously.
* Hi people are to respond to Him in humility with worship and declaration of His holiness.
3). God is set apart in His actions toward us.
Psalm 99:6-9
6. Mose and Aaron were among his priests; Samuel also we among those calling on his name. They called to the Lord and he answered them.
7. He spoke to them in a pillar of cloud; they kept his decrees and the statutes he gave them.
8. Lord our God, you answered them. You were a forgiving God to them, but an avenger of their sinful actions.
9. Exalt the Lord our God; bow in worship at his holy mountain, for the Lord our God is holy.
Lasting truths from: Psalm 99:6-9
* The Lord answers those who call on His name.
* The Lord provides instruction and guidance for His people in many ways.
* The Lord holds His people accountable for their sin, but He also extends forgiveness.
* Thus, once again His people have a reason to worship Him as the Holy One.
As you reflect on this session, respond to the following questions:
1. What about your way of living gives evidence that the Lord reigns with holiness and great power in your life.
2. What is your testimony of knowing firsthand that the Lord is just and right and responds with grace.
3. How does knowing God’s holiness, His righteous judgment, and Hi propensity to answer with grace affect your worship?
