Subject: Jesus Saves

The Point: Jesus saves all who trust in Him.

Scriptures: Acts 2:22-24, 32-41

Study The Bible: Acts 2:22-24

1). Jesus: sent as Savior.

22. “Fellow Israelites, listen to these words; This Jesus of Nazareth was a man attested to you by God with miracles, wonders, and signs that God did among you through him, just as you yourselves know.
23. Though he was delivered up according to God’s determined plan and foreknowledge, you used lawless people to nail him to a cross and kill him.
24. God raise him up, ending the pains of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by death.

Lasting truths from: Acts 2:22-24

* The focus of the Christian message is Jesus.

* God gave His approval to Jesus and proved Him to be more than a mere man.

* The atoning death of Jesus on the cross was not incidental but according to God’s plan.

* God conquered death by raising Jesus from the dead.

2). Jesus: exalted as Lord.

Acts 2:32-36

32. “God has raised this Jesus; we are all witnesses of this.
33. Therefore, since he has been exalted to the right hand of God and has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit, he has poured out what you both see and hear.
34. For it was not David who ascended into the heavens, but he himself says: The Lord declared to my Lord, ‘Sit at my right hand
35. until I make your enemies your footstool.’
36. “Therefore let all the house of Israel know with certainty that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messian.”

Lasting truths from: Acts 2:22-24

*  By faith, we bear witness to the truth that Jesus lives!

* The Father exalted the Son, Jesus, to a place of honor and glory at His right hand.

* In Christ, the Holy Spirit is poured out on all who believe.

* We can know with certainty that the crucified Jesus has been raised as Lord and Christ.

3). Jesus: trust Him

Acts 2:37-41

37. When they heard this, they were pierced to the heart and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?”
38. Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39. For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
40. With many other words he testified and strongly urged them, saying, “Be saved from this corrupt generation!”
41. So those who accepted his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand people were added to them.

Lasting truths from: Acts 2:37-41

*  The Word of the Lord delivered in the power of the Spirit brings conviction and calls for response of personal repentance.

* Repentance leads to baptism as a public confession of one’s faith by which a person identifies with the church as a body of believers.

* God pours out His Spirit on those who repent of their sins and confess Jesus in the Christ.

* Forgiveness of sin is available to all people who respond to the call of God.  

As you reflect on this session, respond to the following questions:

1. How well are you able to articulate the message of salvation through the death, resurrection, and exaltation of Jesus Christ, and the need to respond with confession, repentance, and trust? Are you confident that you could share your faith clearly?
2. What does it mean to you to declare “Jesus is Lord”? Does your life stand as an example of that declaration?
3. How is personal trust in Jesus the foundation of the Christian life?
