Subject: Security in Place of Fear
The Point: Because of Christ, nothing will keep us from God and His work in our lives.
The Passages: Romans 8:28-39
Study The Bible: Romans 8:28-30
1). God works in all things for our good.
- We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.
- For those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
- And those be predestined, he also called, and those he called, he also justified; and those he justified, he also glorified.
Lasting truths from: Romans 8:28-30
* In Christians lives, God uses all circumstance, including the most difficult, for good.
* God is intentionally invested in the redemption of all those who repent and put their faith in Jesus Christ.
* The ultimate goal for believers is to embody the likeness of Jesus Christ.
* The spiritual formation journey is a process of calling justification and glorification.
2). No one can condemn us before God.
Romans 8:31-34
- What, then, are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us?
- He did not even spare his own Son but gave him up for us all. How will he not also with him grant us everything?
- Who can bring an accusation against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies.
- Who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is the one who died, but even more, has been raised; he also is at the right hand of God and intercedes for us.
Lasting truths from: Romans 8:31-34
* All that matters is knowing that God is for us.
* God demonstrated His commitment to us through sacrifice and sustains us daily.
* No accusation can stand up against God’s people, because He is the ultimate judge.
* Christians are free from condemnation because of Jesus, who died for us, defeated death, and stands with God advocating for our every need.
3). Nothing can separate us from God’s Love.
Romans 8:35-39
- Who can separate us from the love of Christ? Can affliction or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
- As it is written: Because of you we are being put to death all day long; we are counted as sheep to be slaughtered.
- No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
- For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers,
- nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Lasting truth from: Romans 8:35-39
* Christians should expect hardship in this life, specifically because of their faith.
* Absolutely nothing can separate us from God.
* Our unbreakable bond to God is founded and demonstrated in the love of Jesus.
Live It Out
As you reflect on this session, respond to the following questions:
- What circumstances are you facing currently that cause you to question your faith in God? How can this session inspire you to rethink the circumstances you have faced, or are currently experiencing in life?
- What typically causes “restricted access” between you and God? Based on this session, how can you respond to the threats in your life that create separation?
- Who in your life needs to know, or be reminded about, the inseparable power of God? What can you do this week to share the good news found in this passage with that person?
Closing Prayer:
“Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died on the cross to forgive me of my sins and rose from the dead to give me new life. I’m sorry for all the wrong I’ve done and ask You to forgive me. I now accept Your gift of eternal life. Thank You for Your love, forgiveness, and a new life in Jesus Christ. From this day forward, I choose to follow You. In Jesus’ name Amen.”
