Subject: Three Reasons for Giving Thanks

The Point: Give thanks for the ways God is at work in your life.

Study The Bible: Psalm 107:1-3

1). Give thanks because God redeems us.

Psalm 107:1-3

  1. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his faithful love endures forever.
  2. Let the redeemed of the Lord proclaim that he has redeemed them for the power of the foe
  3. and has gathered them from the lands—from the east and the west, from the north and the south.

* Christians should praise God for His love and mercy.

* Believers should declare God’s saving acts, whether national deliverance or personal salvation.

* God is faithful to fulfil His promise even though centuries pass.

2). Give thanks because God leads us.

Psalm 107:4-7

  2. They were hungry and thirsty; their spirits failed within them.
  3. Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble; he rescued them from their distress.
  4. He led them by the right path to go to a city where they could live.

Lasting truths from: Psalm 107:4-7

* God hears and answers our prayers.

* God will guide us if we ask.

Psalm 107:8-9

  1. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his faithful love and his wondrous works for all humanity.
  2. For he has satisfied the thirsty and filled the hungry with good things.

Lasting truth from: Psalm 107:8-9

* God is good and His faithful love lasts forever.

*  God’s love is meant for all people on earth.

* Because of God’s good works, our lives are meant to give Him thanks.

Live It Out

As you reflect on this session, respond to the following questions:

  1. How does knowing God redeems us change how you live your life daily?
  2. How does your life show that you give thanks to God and that you allow God to lead you?
  3. How do you express your thanks to God?
  4. Would those who know you the best describe you as a thankful person? Why?

Closing Prayer:

“Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died on the cross to forgive me of my sins and rose from the dead to give me new life. I’m sorry for all the wrong I’ve done and ask You to forgive me. I now accept Your gift of eternal life. Thank You for Your love, forgiveness, and a new life in Jesus Christ. From this day forward, I choose to follow You. In Jesus’ name Amen.”
