Subject: Pray for Your Neighbor
The Point: Love your neighbors by taking their needs to God in prayer.
The Passages: 1 Timothy 2:1-8
Study The Bible: 1 Timothy 2:1-4
1). We are to pray for our neighbors.
- First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be made for everyone,
- for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
- That is good, and it pleases God our Savior,
- who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Lasting truths from: 1 Timothy 2:1-4
* Christians should come to God with petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving.
* Love for others grows in our hearts as we grow in our love for God.
* God especially desires prayer for all those in authority, for God desires everyone to be saved.
2). We are to pray that our neighbors recognize Jesus is the only way to salvation.
1 Timothy 2:5-6
- For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,
- who gave himself as a ransom for all, a testimony at the proper time.
Lasting truths from: 1 Timothy 2:5-6
* There is one God and one mediator between a holy God and sinful humanity.
* Salvation is only possible through the work of Christ, who paid the ransom for the salvation of all.
* Believers must pray that our neighbors would come to know these truths so they can know Christ as Savior.
3). We are to pray with the right attitude.
1 Timothy 2:7-8
- For this I was appointed a herald, an apostle (I am telling the truth; I am not lying), and a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
- Therefore, I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument.
Lasting truth from: 1 Timothy 2:7-8
* God desires believers to pray with the right attitude.
* A believer develops the right attitude as he surrenders his life to God.
* Believers need to make Scripture the final authority in their lives.

As you reflect on this session, respond to the following questions:
- Make a list of neighbors for whom God leads you to pray.
- Determine ways you can pray for your neighbors.
- Pray and seek opportunities to share the gospel with others as God leads.
Closing Prayer:
“Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died on the cross to forgive me of my sins and rose from the dead to give me new life. I’m sorry for all the wrong I’ve done and ask You to forgive me. I now accept Your gift of eternal life. Thank You for Your love, forgiveness, and a new life in Jesus Christ. From this day forward, I choose to follow You. In Jesus’ name Amen.”
