Sunday School Lesson April 10, 2022
Subject: A Life of Victory
The Point: In Christ, we have victory over anything the world throws at us.
The Passages: John 16:19-22,27-33
Study The Bible: John 16:19-22
1). Jesus’ death causes us sorrow, but His resurrection brings us joy.
- Jesus knew they wanted to ash him, and so he said to them, “Are you asking one another about what I said. “In a little while, you will not see me; again in a little while, you will see me”?
- Truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn, but the world will rejoice. You will become sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn to joy.
- When a woman is in labor, she has pain because her time has come. But when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the suffering because of the joy that a person has been born into the world.
- So you also have sorrow now. But I will see you again. Your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy from you.
Lasting truths from: John 16:19-22
* Jesus, and only Jesus, knows best how to comfort those who are His disciples.
* Those who follow Jesus may have temporary sadness, but they also have permanent joy.
* Jesus’ indwelling presence gives eternal joy.
2). Our victory rests in Jesus, the One who came from God.
John 16:27-30
- For the Father himself love you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God.
- I came from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I am leaving the world and going to the Father.”
- His disciples said, “Look, now you’re speaking plainly and not using any figurative language.
- Now we know that you know everything and don’t need anyone to question you. By this we believe that you came from God.”
Lasting truth from: John 16:27-30
* Jesus came from God.
* Jesus and only Jesus, gives us victory over the world.
* Jesus has returned to God.
* Jesus knows everything.
3). We can live in peace and courage because of our victory in Christ.
John 16:31-33
- Jesus responded to them, “Do you now believe?
- Indeed, an hour is coming, and has come, when each of you will be scattered to his own home, and you will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
- I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.”
Lasting truth from: John 16:31-33
* We truly believe in Jesus only when we obey His worlds.
* Just as Jesus faced persecution because He followed God, all who follow God also will face persecution from those forces that oppose God.
* We can have peace and be courageous because Jesus has conquered the world.
Live It Out
As you reflect on this session, respond to the following questions:
- What actions can you take this week to help you focus on eternal joy rather than temporary sorrow?
- What impact does having eternal joy create in your life?
- What are several things you understand because you know that Jesus came from God?
- How does knowing that Jesus come from God give you victory?
- What actions can you take this week to give you Jesus’ peace?
- What steps can you take to develop courage and overcome the world?
Closing Prayer:
“Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died on the cross to forgive me of my sins and rose from the dead to give me new life. I’m sorry for all the wrong I’ve done and ask You to forgive me. I now accept Your gift of eternal life. Thank You for Your love, forgiveness, and a new life in Jesus Christ. From this day forward, I choose to follow You. In Jesus’ name Amen.”
