Subject: Give Thanks to God
The Point: Our thanks and worship belong to God.
The Passages: Psalms 100:1-5
Study The Bible: Psalms 100:1-2
1). Serve the Lord with gladness.
- Let the whole earth shout triumphantly to the Lord.
- Serve the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.
Lasting truths from: Psalms 100:1-2
* Our relationship to God should cause us to shout joyfully.
* We should serve God gladly knowing that His will for us is much better than anything we could do on our own.
2). Acknowledge that the Lord Is God.
Psalms 100:3
- Acknowledge that the Lord is God. He made us, and we are his—his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Lasting truth from: Psalms 100:3
* We must avoid idolatry by making sure nothing is more important in our lives than our relationship to God.
* Since God created us, we belong to Him and should serve Him with joy.
* God’s people must remain loyal to Him, our Shepherd instead of serving the idols of our hearts.
3). Give thanks to him and bless his name.
Psalm 100:4-5
- Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and bless his name.
- For the Lord is good, and his faithful love endures forever, his faithfulness, through all generations.
Lasting truth from: Psalms 100:4-5
* There is only one true God, and He has revealed Himself to be good, loving, and faithful.
* The good, loving, and faithful God invites all people to come worship, and serve Him.
* Serving the Lord is not a matter of drudgery and pain but of intense gladness and joy.
* God, the only Creator, made us, and He claims His people as His own and personally shepherds to them.
* The rightful response to our good, loving and faithful God is a life filled with thanksgiving, praise, and blessing.
Live It Out
As you reflect on this session, respond to the following questions:
- Think about your practice of worship. Is your attitude in worship focused on God or upon yourself?
- Think about the call of God on your life. Do you consider your service to God a matter of joy or drudgery?
- How does it make you feel that the Lord of the universe invites you into His very presence?
- As you ponder over the Lord’s goodness, His love, and His faithfulness, what is your rightful response to Him in worship?
Closing Prayer:
“Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died on the cross to forgive me of my sins and rose from the dead to give me new life. I’m sorry for all the wrong I’ve done and ask You to forgive me. I now accept Your gift of eternal life. Thank You for Your love, forgiveness, and a new life in Jesus Christ. From this day forward, I choose to follow You. In Jesus’ name Amen.”
