Sunday School Lesson October 10, 2021

Sunday School Lesson October 10, 2021

Subject: Sure of Salvation

The Point: We can be sure God saves us when we trust in Christ.

The Passages: 1 John 5:1-5, 11-13, 18-21

Study The Bible: 1 John 5:1-5

1).  We can know we are born of God because Jesus is the Christ.

  1. Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father also loves the one born of him.
  2. This is how we know that we love God’s children: when we love God and obey his commands.
  3. For this is what love for God is: to keep his commands. And his commands are not a burden,
  4. because everyone who has been born of God conquers the world. This is the victory that has conquered the world: our faith.
  5. Who is the one who conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

Lasting truths from: 1 John 5:1-5

* The new birth occurs when we place our trust and faith in Jesus Christ.

* The Holy Spirit produces a love for God and for people.

* We demonstrate our love for the Lord by our obedience to God and His commands.

* Since our Lord Jesus Christ overcame the world, we too overcome when we place our faith in Him.

* When we place our faith in Jesus Christ, we experience His victory over the world as our own.

2). We can know we have eternal life because God’s Word say so.

1 John 5:11-13

  1. And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
  2. The one who has the Son has life. The one who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
  3. I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

Lasting truth from: 1 John 5:11-13

* The presence of Christ in our lives is the evidence that we have salvation.

*  Eternal life is available only through Jesus Christ.

*  One must have a personal relationship with Christ based on faith in Him.

* When we believe in the name of Jesus Christ, we are born of God and become children of God.

3). We can know we are saved because our lives are changed.

1 John 5:18-21

  1. We know that everyone who has been born of God does not sin, but the one who is born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.
  2. We know that we are of God, and the whole world is under the sway of the evil one.
  3. And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we may know the true one. We are in the true one—that is, in his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.
  4. Little children, guard yourselves from idols.

Lasting truth from: 1 John 5:18-21

* Christians have no reason to doubt their present and future eternal life as they live in obedience to God.

*  We can confidently pray and follow God, knowing He hears and answers prayers we bring to Him in accordance with His will.

* The Christian life is a victorious life.

Live It Out

We experience forgiveness through Jesus Christ when we confess our sin and place our trust in Him. He is the One who makes forgiveness possible because of His sacrificial death on the cross. His blood covers our sin and we enjoy fellowship with the Lord. Now, we can go to Him whenever we are in need of forgiveness.

  1. How might having assurance of salvation in Christ change how you live and view your life after today?
  2. How does that presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives give us the practical assurance of our salvation?
  3. How would you explain to someone that we can be certain of our salvation in Christ and have assurance that we are saved?

Closing Prayer:

“Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died on the cross to forgive me of my sins and rose from the dead to give me new life. I’m sorry for all the wrong I’ve done and ask You to forgive me. I now accept Your gift of eternal life. Thank You for Your love, forgiveness, and a new life in Jesus Christ. From this day forward, I choose to follow You. In Jesus’ name Amen.”
