Sunday School Lesson September 26, 2021

Subject:  Sure of Victory

The Point: Because Jesus is victorious, His people are victorious.

The Passages: 1 John 3:19-4:4

Study The Bible: 1 John 3:19-22

1).  We have victory because our confidence rests in Jesus.

  1. This is how we will know that we belong to the truth and will reassure our hearts before him,
  2. whenever our hearts condemn us; for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows all things.
  3. Dear friends, if our hearts don’t condemn us, we have confidence before God,
  4. and receive whatever we ask from him because we keep his commands and do what is pleasing in his sight.

Lasting truths from: 1 John 3:19-22

* Our spiritual position of victory in Christ enables us to face the future with confidence and assurance.

* Rather than experience the accusations of the devil, who is the accuser of believers, we can receive assurance from the Lord who is on the side of truth.

* Now that we are in Christ, we are for given on account of His blood that was shed for us.

* Answered prayers are evidence that we have confidence with God instead of condemnation.

2). We have victory because we remain in Jesus.

1 John 3:23-24

  1. Now this is his command: that we believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another as he commanded us.
  2. The one who keeps his commands remain in him, and he in him. And the way we know that he remains in us is from the Spirit he has given us.

Lasting truth from: 1 John 3:23-24

* WE have the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives to remind us of the calling we received from God.

*  Our focus must be on the vertical and horizontal dimensions of the cross.

*  When you look at the essence of the gospel message, it can be reduced to a faith in Christ that is expressed by a love for God in Christ and a love for people.

* That is how we know that we are in Christ, because the Holy Spirit is in us.

3). We have victory because Jesus has conquered the world.

1 John 4:1-4

  1. Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see if they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
  2. This is how you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,
  3. but every spirit that does not confess Jesus in not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming; even now it is already in the world.
  4. You are from God, little children, and you have conquered them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

Lasting truth from: 1 John 4:1-4

* The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is proof of victory over sin.

*  Following Jesus requires us to be vigilant because of the ongoing threat of deception in the world.

*. We know we have the Spirit of God when we confess Jesus Christ came to earth in the flesh.

*  There is no neutral ground when it comes to our response to Jesus Christ.

* We have assurance that God is more powerful than the evil one, and His truth will protect us from the lies of the enemy.

Live It Out

We experience forgiveness through Jesus Christ when we confess our sin and place our trust in Him. He is the One who makes forgiveness possible because of His sacrificial death on the cross. His blood covers our sin and we enjoy fellowship with the Lord. Now, we can go to Him whenever we are in need of forgiveness.

  1. In what area of your life can you depend upon Christ for victory over sin?
  2. How can we develop a mindset of victory rather than defeat whenever we face challenging circumstances?
  3. How does Jesus’ victory guarantee our victory over the world, the flesh, and the devil?

Closing Prayer:

“Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died on the cross to forgive me of my sins and rose from the dead to give me new life. I’m sorry for all the wrong I’ve done and ask You to forgive me. I now accept Your gift of eternal life. Thank You for Your love, forgiveness, and a new life in Jesus Christ. From this day forward, I choose to follow You. In Jesus’ name Amen.”
