Sunday School Lesson September 19, 2021

Sunday School Lesson September 19, 2021

Subject:  Sure of the Truth

The Point: Truth is found in Jesus alone.

The Passages: 1 John 2:18-29

Study The Bible: 1 John 2: 18-21

1).  Because of God’s work in our lives, we know the truth.

  1. Children, it is the last hour. And as you have heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. By this we know that it is the last hour.
  2. They went out from us but they did not belong to us; for if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us. However, they went out so that it might be made clear that none of them belongs to us.
  3. But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.
  4. I have not written to you because you don’t know the truth, but because you do know it, and because no lie comes from the truth.

Lasting truths from: 1 John 2:18-21

* The antichrist is real and seeks to fight against the truth of God and His Word.

* Those who are deceived were never truly saved.

* The true follower of Jesus will remain faithful to the Lord and to other believers.

* The truth of God’s Word will  strengthen and protect us whenever we face lies and deception.

2). Truth is grounded in who Jesus is.

1 John 2:22-26

  1. Who is the liar, if not the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This one is the antichrist; the one who denies the Father and the Son.
  2. No one who denies the Son has the Father; he who confesses the Son has the Father as well.
  3. What you have heard from the beginning is to remain in you. If what you have heard from the beginning remains in you, then you will remain in the Son and in the Father.

25.And this is the promise that he himself made to us; eternal life.

  1. I have written these things to you concerning those who are trying to deceive you.

Lasting truth from: 1 John 2:22-26

* The antichrist is real and is a liar. Jesus is the Truth.

*  Either you are on the side of Jesus or you are not.

*  Anyone who denies the truth of Jesus Christ is on the side of the antichrist.

* If our faith is genuine, then it will be evident through our obedience to the Lord.

*If you truly live for Jesus, you will not be deceived and you will have eternal life.

3). Living in the truth leads us to live righteously.

1 John 2:27-29

  1. As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you don’t need anyone to teach you. Instead, his anointing teaches you about all things and is true and is not a lie; just as it has taught you, remain in him.
  2. So now, little children, remain in him so that wen he appears we may have confidence and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
  3. If you know that he is righteous, you know this as well; Everyone who does what is right has been born of him.

Lasting truth from: 1 John 2:27-29

* The anointing we have received from God Himself is the Holy Spirit.

*  Once we receive Christ, we are to remain in Him by faithfully following Him.

*. We want to be found faithfully obeying Him on the day that He returns.

*  We will do well if we are abiding in Christ and serving Him so that we will not be ashamed whenever He returns.

Live It Out

We experience forgiveness through Jesus Christ when we confess our sin and place our trust in Him. He is the One who makes forgiveness possible because of His sacrificial death on the cross. His blood covers our sin and we enjoy fellowship with the Lord. Now, we can go to Him whenever we are in need of forgiveness.

  1. How did you come to a knowledge of the truth in Christ?
  2. In what ways have you grown in your understanding of God’s truth in the Scriptures?
  3. How can you share God’s truth with those who do not believe?

Closing Prayer:

“Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died on the cross to forgive me of my sins and rose from the dead to give me new life. I’m sorry for all the wrong I’ve done and ask You to forgive me. I now accept Your gift of eternal life. Thank You for Your love, forgiveness, and a new life in Jesus Christ. From this day forward, I choose to follow You. In Jesus’ name Amen.”
