Subject: The Message
The Point: Jesus saves those who trust in Him.
The Passages: Romans 10:8b-17
Study The Bible: Romans 10:8b-10
1). The gospel message is centered on the resurrection and lordship of Christ.
8b. The message is near you, in your mouth and in your heart. This is the message of faith that we proclaim.
- If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
- One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation
Lasting truths from: Romans 10:8b-10
* The early Christian confession “Jesus is Lord” expresses the union of God the Son and God the Father.
* The resurrection of Jesus is essential to the gospel.
* Our confession of Jesus as Lord and our belief in His resurrection results in our righteousness, our salvation.
2). The gospel message offers salvation to all people.
Romans 10:11-13
- For the Scripture says, Everyone who believes on him will not be put to shame,
- since there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, because the same Lord of all richly blesses all who call on him.
- For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
Lasting truth from: Romans 10:11-13
* Both the Old Testament and the New Testament indicate the universal nature of God’s gospel invitation.
* God feely gives salvation to all those who ask Him, regardless of any human distinctiveness.
* God’s promise of salvation for those who call on Him has no limitations.
3). The gospel message should be communicate to others.
Romans 10:14-17
- How, then can they call on him they have not believed in? And how can they believe without hearing about him? And how can they hear without a preacher?
- And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news.
- But not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, Lord, who has believed our message?
- So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about Christ.
Lasting truth from: Romans 10:14-17
* Going and preaching the gospel results in hearing and believing in the good news.
* If we fail to preach the gospel, we fail to do what Christ expects us to do.
* Some people reject the gospel but this does not negate our responsibility to share Christ.
* Because faith comes from hearing, we must make sure we share the gospel message.

As you reflect on this lesson respond to the following questions:
- Which of my actions this week indicate that I confess Jesus as Lord?
- How are the actions of believing in and confessing Jesus as Lord related to how I live?
- How important is it for my spiritual life to share the gospel with others? How important is it for others’ spiritual lives for me to share the gospel.
- While the gospel invitation is open to all people, why is it important for each person who hears the gospel to repent of their sins and place their faith in Christ?
- What will you do this week to share the gospel with those around you?
Closing Prayer:
“Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died on the cross to forgive me of my sins and rose from the dead to give me new life. I’m sorry for all the wrong I’ve done and ask You to forgive me. I now accept Your gift of eternal life. Thank You for Your love, forgiveness, and a new life in Jesus Christ. From this day forward, I choose to follow You. In Jesus’ name Amen.”
