Subject: Overcoming Worry

The Point: We have no need to worry when we trust God.

The Passage: Psalm 23:1-6

Study The Bible: Psalm 23:1-3

1). Worry to unnecessary when we trust God’s guidance and provision.

1. The Lord is my shepherd; I have what I need.
2. He lets me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside quiet waters.
3. He renews my life; he leads me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

Lasting truths from Psalm 23:1-3

• The Lord is present with us to provide for our needs.
• The Lord is present with us to lead us in the right way.
• What the Lord does on our behalf should bring glory to His name.

2). Worry is unnecessary when we trust God’s presence.

Psalm 23:4-5

4. Even when I go through the darkest valley, I fear no danger, for you are with me; your rod and your staff—they comfort me.
5. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Lasting truths from Psalm 23:4-5

• We are never alone even when we are in the darkest valley.
• God is always there to comfort us so we have nothing to fear.
• God guides and provides for us in all circumstances.

3). Worry is unnecessary when we trust God’s goodness.

Psalm 23:6

6. Only goodness and faithful love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord as long as I live.

Lasting truths from Psalm 23:6

• We are able to live all the days of our lives in the Lord’s goodness and love.
• WE enjoy the blessing of being part of God’s household.
• The care, protection, and provision of the Lord does not end in this life.

2. What things do you tend to worry about? How will you trust God with these?
3. In what practical ways can you trust God’s guidance and provision for your life?
4. Why is worry unnecessary when we trust God’s presence in our lives?
5. What evidence in your life demonstrates your trust in God’s goodness?
