Subject: Christ’s Commitment to Us
The Point: Even at our worst, Christ was fully committed to love us and bring us to God.
The Passage: Romans 5:6-12,18-21
Study The Bible: Romans 5:6-8
1). Christ proved He was fully committed by dying for us.
- For while we were still helpless, at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly.
- For rarely will someone die for a just person—though for a good person perhaps someone might even dare to die.
- But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Lasting truths from Romans 5:6-8
- Christ offered Himself for people who could not pay their own debt.
- Human experience has no parallel for the sacrifice Jesus’ commitment demonstrated.
- God took action to save us before we could do anything to save ourselves
2). Christ was fully committed to reconcile us to God.
Romans 5:9-11
- How much more then, since we have now been declared righteous by his blood, will we be saved through him from wrath.
- For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, then how much more, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life.
- And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received this reconciliation.
Lasting truths from Romans 5:9-11
- God counts believers righteous on the basis of Christ’s sacrifice.
- Reconciliation to God means we enjoy abundant eternal life beginning now.
- Our salvation, is worth rejoicing about.
3). Christ was fully committed to give us eternal life.
Romans 5:12,18-21
- Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, in this way death spread to all people, because all sinned.
- So then, as through one trespass there is condemnation for everyone, so also through one righteous act there is justification leading to life for everyone.
- For just as through one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so also through the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous.
- The law came along to multiply the trespass. But where sin multiplied, grace multiplied even more
- so that, just as sin resigned in death, so also grace will resign through righteousness, resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Lasting truths from Romans 5:12,18-21
- Adam’s sin resulted in consequences for the entire human race.
- Christ’s perfect sacrifice and resurrection bring life to all who place their faith in Him.
- God’s law reveals our sins, but also points us to the Savior, who can address our sin problem.

- Where does your commitment to Christ rank among the commitments in your life?
- How does God’s commitment to sinful humanity and sending Jesus differ from commitments we typically see in the world?
- Our commitment to Christ leads to eternal life in heaven. What does our commitment to Christ look like in everyday life as we await that day?
Closing Prayer:
“Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died on the cross to forgive me of my sins and rose from the dead to give me new life. I’m sorry for all the wrong I’ve done and ask You to forgive me. I now accept Your gift of eternal life. Thank You for Your love, forgiveness, and a new life in Jesus Christ. From this day forward, I choose to follow You, In Jesus’ name, Amen”
