Subject: Committed to His Worship

The Point: God deserves our worship and praise.

The Passage: Psalm 99:1-9

Study The Bible: 99:1-3

1). Praise God for His holiness and great power.

1. The Lord reigns! Let the peoples tremble. He is enthroned between the cherubim. Let the earth quake.
2. The Lord is great in Zion; he is exalted above all the peoples.
3. Let them praise your great and awe-inspiring name. He is holy.

Lasting truths from 99:1-3

• The Lord resigns over all the earth.
• God’s power is awe-inspiring.
• All nations should give God praise.

2). Praise God for his justice, fairness, and righteousness.  

 Psalm 99:4-5

4. The mighty King loves justice. You have established fairness; you have administered justice and righteousness in Jacob.
5. Exalt the Lord our God; bow in worship at his footstool. He is holy.

Lasting truths from Psalm 99:4-5

• The King of the universe has established justice, fairness, and righteousness as His desire on earth.
• We should exalt our Lord’s name at every opportunity.
• Proper worship means recognizing His place and ours.

3).  Praise God for His answers.

Psalm 99:6-9

6. Moses and Aaron were among his priests; Samuel also was among those calling on his name. They called to the Lord and he answered them.
7. He spoke to them in a pillar of cloud; they kept his decrees and the statues he gave them.
8. Lord our God, you answered them. You were a forgiving God to them, but an avenger of their sinful actions.
9. Exalt the Lord our God; bow in worship at his holy mountain, for the Lord our God is holy.

Lasting truths from Psalm 99:6-9

• God answers His people when they call on Him.
• God uses various ways to guide His people toward His will.
• God is a forgiving God, but He will punish sin.
• God seeks those who will worship Him.

Live It Out

As you reflect on this session, respond to the following questions.

1. Read through Psalm 95-99 and make a list of references to God’s kingship. What implication does God’s kingship have for your life?
2. We are God’s instruments to work His purpose. How can we more intentionally work to bring about justice, fairness, and righteousness in our community?
3. Keep a journal or written record of God’s faithfulness in your life, or read back through your journal if you already have one. How can a journal bring encouragement?

Closing Prayer:

“Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died on the cross to forgive me of my sins and rose from the dead to give me new life. I’m sorry for all the wrong I’ve done and ask You to forgive me. I now accept Your gift of eternal life. Thank You for Your love, forgiveness, and a new life in Jesus Christ. From this day forward, I choose to follow You, In Jesus’ name, Amen”
